Spartacus

Before I deal with the very nice business of accepting yet another award, I thought I'd note that I attended a pub quiz tonight: the first time since I wrote this post.

I mentioned this to my prospective team members (sorry, you'll have to click on the link to get the context) and, although they liked the idea, we settled on a workable compromise and called our team "We're Spartacus." Sod's Law reared its ugly head, as we submitted our name and our fee, the quizmaster informed us that they'd had an entire round on Spartacus last week. Typical! Oh well: plus points tonight were that

a) we didn't come last (third from last in fact, which seems quite respectable given the competitors and the good at quizzes/good at life ratio)

b) thanks to a good showing in the music round, we ended up winning 8 pints for ourselves (for a team of four, so that works out at roughly 2 pints each, according to my calculations)

c) it was a pleasant diversion from the mania that occurred between the hours of 8.30am and 4.30pm (at which point I was at work)

Hello Mr. Trousers - the only time I took part in a pub quiz was at a Eurocamp in Brittany. I think most of the questions were about TV programmes I had never seen. I won no prizes.

Totes pferd has intrigued me - but I will behave with decorum and not ask questions.

I am also rubbish at questions re celebrity and soap operas.

But, brilliant with questions about Spartacus - there is only one answer to remember.

Hello and welcome, signs. Thankfully someone in our team owns and (occasionally) watches TV so we didn't do too badly in that respect.
"Bloggen ein totes Pferd" was changed from its original wording as a reflection of the fact that Blogger kept bringing up instructions in German. Try putting it through one of those free translation sites.

Me too, merkin. I really wish I'd been there for the Spartacus round last week. Damn.

Lovely Trousers - you cannot win a pub quiz if you don't watch crappy TV, in my experience. Or read Heat magazine. Or have a ridiculous memory for FA cup winners going back 45 years. So clearly coming third is much, much better than winning as it shows you are quite clever and have a life. Glad to be of help x

Thanks ms m, you're right of course, though thankfully this particular quiz night doesn't overdo the TV/Celeb questions. Of course we have to go back and have another go as well, we've 8pints worth of beer tokens to redeem against the bar :)

Well I am rather impressed. 8 pints is a fine prize and to honour this/you, I will indeed attempt to use the word Spartacus at the 'thing' tomorrow.

That really should be the kind of question they ask, pixie! It's good to have that kind of knowledge, I would say.

caroline, good luck once again, and do let me know if you manage to use Spartacus :)

Next week, Kirk Douglas.

I'm afraid that would be too radical for the likes of me, Szwag. Spartacus or nothing as an answer, I'm bound to admit.

I've just remembered. Spartakus is the name of a gay sauna here in Kraków. What's a 'gay sauna', you may ask.

I'm afraid my research grant doesn't allow me to investigate in depth.

You're telling me, szwag, that your grant won't allow for the expenditure of 6 Euros?

Cheapskate that I am, that's exactly what I'm telling you.

Off-topic, but I never realised until yesterday that there was anything about saunas that required a declaration of sexual orientation.

Me neither. We live and learn.
