For Signs

Signs asked me if I'd posted any photos of Berlin, following me commenting here. Well it gives me an excuse to post some more doesn't it? I've lots of more obviously touristy photos but I thought that Signs, as an ex-dweller of Berlin, might find these ones a little more interesting (I reserve the right to be wrong). In an "I can do requests" manner, I'm happy to post a few more if there's any demand...

Love your Berlin photos! I have been to Berlin three times in a year, and am already planning when I can get right back there.

If we were to choose where we would move to, my husband would choose Geneva and I would choose Berlin. I completely feel it is where I'm meant to be (apart from Cape Town but that ain't never gonna happen.)

More pics please.

These are lovely, Trousers. So much more evocative when you have actually been there recently. They are so very - Berlin.

I lived there (Kladow, actually) for three years as a child and haven't been back since just before the wall went up. But still there are part, especially in the east, where I just feel I know the place in my bones, or something.

Three times in a year charlotte, lucky you is all I can say - I'm really not jealous at all, oh no :)
I've been to Geneva a couple of times and while it has special memories, I too would choose Berlin over Geneva. With the added bonus that it's far cheaper.

Thanks ario, that was well-chosen, and really made me smile :)

Glad you like them signs. Despite my having only been in very recent times, the former east does have its own distinct character doesn't it? The contrast (which is surely far, far less than it used to be) struck me the first time I wandered over west of Tiergarten where, at least at close range, the rows of shops and neon signs could have been from any number of cities.

Have you ever blogged any of those earlier memories?

Just as I was selfishly thinking 'what no benches?' I saw one!!!! :) Love the pic of the trees in the park too.

I'm sure I will before long, zola...

dj, I remembered I promised some bench photos for you ages ago and so far I haven't sent them - do feel free to purloin this one for use on your benches site though, if indeed you want to.

Trousers, I've blogged snippets of memories here and there, particularly about festivals like Martinmas (Laterne, Laterne) and such-like. But now I'm actually working on a prose project (sorry but don't want to jinx it by saying the 'N' word) which draws substantially from those memories.

I may trawl for snippets at some point, signs - and I wonder whether you'll post any of your prose project, or whether you'll keep that separate from your blog?

Brings back some rather unhappy memories:(

I lived in Berlin for 3 months and have photos of beautiful places, but no happy memories.

Perhaps I'll go back one day.

If you did go back, I'm sure - what with your circumstances being so different - it would be a much happier experience, caroline. But I can quite understand that you might not be heading straight over to an online booking site or to the travel agents before the week is out.. x
