Swings, roundabouts and too much information

Swings:I received a letter pertaining to the job I applied for: key phrase being on this occasion, however... I was surprised that they'd sent the letter, it seems increasingly common for employers to not send rejection letters at this stage (though I could be wrong). Whether or not this has any bearing on my lack of success, I wondered if it was because I was writing out the application form while I was mired in frantic preparations for my recent gig (not actually at the same time, but generally in the midst of all that).

Roundabouts: I was informed at work today that we now have five extra days annual leave and five extra days paid sick leave to contend with. Now I know that at least some of this is bringing us in line with incoming statutory guidelines, but nonetheless it was still cheering news and a notable improvement to my terms and conditions.

Also, the talk about me taking a lead in a much more creative/arty role at work appears to have moved on a further stage, as well as looking very pro-actively at ways of furthering my development along lines that I wish to follow, as far as is possible. Now I'm not going to get carried away (as if I ever would) but - and I never thought I'd say this - maybe things at work are actually showing signs of a definite upturn.

Too much information: Is this the last day there will ever be? Will there be no Friday or any days thereafter? I've been pondering this. Why? Because all day, I've been farting like there's no tomorrow.

Moving on swiftly, best wishes for a good weekend to everyone who reads this: I'm spending it in Yorkshire, once again at the mercy of a mountain bike.

Enjoy Yorkshire! (So many hills - you are brave/mad.)

And good news on the extra holiday entitlement.

I think you are too good for the jobs you have been going for.
.
I say that without knowing details.

If I had a pound for every rejection letter I have received over the past two years I wouldnt have to work :) If and when you apply for a job, and its the right one, you will get it- I am a strong believer in fate! (works for me!)

Have a fab weekend!

I was discussing selection with a colleague the other day. He mentioned one place in which he had worked where the overwhelming number of applications received for a particular post made them perform a rather suspect selection test:

The pile of applications was split in half and one half fed through the shredder. They had chosen to apply a criterion of 'luck' to the selection. The CVs fed through the shredder belonged to unlucky people, the remaining aplications were from people whose luck was superior...

Re the farting: I suppose that if there were to be no tomorrow then it would be necessary to do all the farting that you might have done for the rest of your natural days. That's quite a though, Trousers, and interesting to ponder - from a distance.

I just had a thought.
Are you farting at interviews?
Does not go down well.
Trust me.

Hope you enjoyed the weekend. Did you get snow? Did you manage to jet propel yourself round the hills?

I just had this vision of trousers at an interview.
.
The interview is going well so far apart from him having forgotten to remove his cycle clips.
.
Suddenly, a distinctive aroma of Wheat Beer and Pastrami fills the room and, horror of horrors, his trouser legs start to billow.....

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your letter of April 6th. After careful consideration, I regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your refusal to offer me a position in your department.

This year I have been particularly fortunate in receiving an unusually large number of rejection letters. With such a varied and promising field of candidates, it is impossible for me to accept all refusals.

Despite your outstanding qualifications and previous experience in rejecting applicants, I find that your rejection does not meet my needs at this time. Therefore, I will take up the position of ... in your department this May. I look forward to seeing you then.

Best of luck in rejecting future applicants.

Sincerely,
Szwag I. Er

Thanks j.j, it does make a big difference knowing I've a few more days to play with. I certainly did enjoy Yorkshire :)

merk and neon, it does look, should the opportunities which are being discussed at my work come to some kind of fruition, like it may be worth staying there for the time being at any rate. If they wish to develop arts activities and involve me in that then it will stand me in good stead for the longer term (and also for my CV/ overall experience). Scuse the convoluted sentences!

(Oh and no I'm not farting at interviews - not as far as I'm aware anyway...)

but why?, I'm tempted to ask if that's an urban myth - on the other hand, I am inclined to believe it. The college I went to, according to legend, had one year in which the rejection letters were accidentally addressed and sent to the successful applicants and vice versa - though the yeargroup turned out to be just as good as any other.

signs (it feels terribly impersonal shortening your name to that, as though I'm calling you by your surname), it certainly felt like that at the time!

dj, not exactly jet - propelled, but a good time was had by all, thanks - see the new post.

anon (that's not lavvy blue is it, who is v notable by her absence?) - I'm sorry you've had to have that vision! What I failed to mention in the post though was that, although a struggle, I was managing to exercise a sufficient amount of discretion...

zola, I was hoping for some sage words from you, and by crikey you've delivered the goods :)

szwag, marvellous comment, though I'm too tired to say anything witty by way of a reply :)

Thanks all, I enjoyed these comments!

Nope.
Lavvyblue has been offline due to an excess of work and a few computer problems, to boot.
