A game of two halves

In keeping with my recent expletive-ridden exploits, here's the first half of this post:

Bollocks.

On the other hand, in keeping with my recent oh-well-The-Fall-have-got-a-new-album-out cheeriness, I have to say that it's currently engaging me (6 or 7 listens so far this week) as much as jozin z bazin did some weeks ago, i.e. very much (or as others might say, obsessive to the point of unhealthiness).

I've got a very cool Fall t-shirt that I found in a charity shop for 50p years ago! I've heard a lot of their stuff over the years and quite like it but have never bought anything- your enthusiasm has made me curious- so if I was to add 1 Fall album to my amazon basket this month which one should I get?!

Oh, now that's a difficult one: I'll think about it and get back to you within the next day or two...

Ok neon - be prepared to be none the wiser...given that their most recent lp (have I mentioned it on this blog?) is their 27th studio album.

The cop-our option is 50,000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong, a more-than-adequate career-spanning compilation at least as far as the early noughties. There are dozens of other compilations but this one does the job very well.

The generally-received-wisdom option is Hex Enduction Hour, in that it's considered far more than any others to be their best album. I would in most respects agree, but depending where you're at musically it's not their most accessible, though it's very rewarding as well as uncompromising.

The combination of classic and accessible option would be This Nation's Saving Grace, from the midst of a consistent run of great albums in the mid 80's, and features the Can-inspired I Am Damo Suzuki which I never tire of.

The more recent great album option - I would suggest The Unutterable: for different reasons I've found most of their recent albums to be little short of excellent, and this one is an enduring favourite of mine - it was released 8 years ago and still stands out as being an absolute cracker.

Hope this helps - if you do choose to buy any of the above (or any others for that matter), do let me know what you think :)

Me dear Trousers : Nice to know that you reveal things.
Bollocks indeed.
Shaved, starved, tickled or pickled.
Remember the Fall.
It was civilisation getting back to basics.

merk, when I clicked on the link it didn't go to where I assume you intended it to: correct me if I'm wrong though, since it's not beyond the realms of possibility that I'm being a bit thick.

As for lav, her absence is indeed a concern: any sightings, anyone?

post-merkin, your zola-esque tones sound familiar, though I can't think of whom they serve to remind me...

dj, are you referring to the jozin z bazin link? Glad to have cheered you up, anyway :)
