Conflicted

I'm currently sat at home watching the Turkish Grand Prix live. Ok, to be more precise, I'm currently sat at home blogging about the fact that I'm watching the Turkish Grand Prix live.

It feels very odd, being currently sat at home doing what I've just described above, since I don't have a telly. Haven't had one for years.

I've just about got my head around the fact that I can, should I so wish, watch various programmes on iPlayer - though so far I've only done so once: there are reasons, after all, why I have no television. But if there's anything which I do tend to miss (aside from decent documentaries and so on) it's being able to watch football and Formula One.

So it feels like a real novelty to have been able to write the first sentence of this post - iPlayer is one thing, but being able to watch the Grand Prix live is quite marvellous.

But it's just weird: I somehow feel like I shouldn't be doing it, as though I've compromised a principle or something.

Well that's just silly.

Had no idea you were an F1 fan!

I used to watch it under sufferance - ex bfriend - and hated every minute of it - but these days I quite enjoy the odd glimpse, and my nephews love it.

Oh yes, I love it, but have had no opportunity to enthuse about it since I've not had the means to directly follow it for a long time. Until now..

I can imagine why many people don't like it - watching fast cars going round a track for two hours - but there's nothing like settling down and watching a good race as far as I'm concerned.

I've just given up, grew up on TV, and despite several years without, I keep going back. Having a dvr to omit the ads makes me feel less bad about it.

Grand Prix, James Garner et al.

I do like the occasional bit of tv, zhoen, but occasional is probably the operative word.

It does feel good though to be able to see the Grand Prix as it's happening though, without the need for a tv.

Isn't iPlayer just brilliant. For me it means I can catch up with the poetry things and access BBC4 which we don't have.

Same in our household Trousers. No TV here for over 20 years. Do you find people being either stunned into silence or saying "Well we don't watch it that much...." when you tell them?
The only thing Ian and myself miss is the cricket, especially as the Twenty20 World Cup is taking place now and the Ashes in a few weeks. At least there is excellent coverage on BBC radio, worth not paying a licence fee for!

I lived for ages without a telly - best time I had. I read loads and listened to the radio. I put on a lot of weight too, but I think that more about the decent Chinese restaurant over the road.

Hahah, yes I've had those kind of responses often enough bikerted - or people seemingly assuming I'm being implicitly critical of them for having a tv - though thankfully when it's come up in conversation lately, the reaction has been either "oh, good for you!" or "no, me neither!"

ps the above sentence is way too long :)

zhisou, yes I read, listen to music, eat way too many curries than are good for me...

I think TV is over rated for sure. P.S. your word verification is 'blessem'. Nice. xo

Deej, I love some of these word verifications, that one being a case in point :)
