Les Grumpy

Like anna mr, I just sidled my way over to the altering labyrinth and found a post about a quiz, asking, "Which book are you?"

I'll say no more (until I publish the results of my interview questions c/o anticant)

You're Les Miserables!

by Victor Hugo

One of the best known people in your community, you have become
something of a phenomenon. People have sung about you, danced in your honor, created all
manner of art in your name. And yet your story is one of failure and despair, with a few
brief exceptions. A hopeless romantic, you'll never stop hoping that more good will come
from your failings than is ever possible. Beware detectives and prison guards bearing
vendettas.

Take the Book Quiz
at the Blue Pyramid.

Hi anna mr, still all my own teeth (though I'm missing the reference - but I'm stupidly tired once again so forgive me)

You miserable sod :)

Still. Could be worse. Some poor woman over at Charlotte's Web was actually deemed to be Lolita.... And anything beats The Hobbit :)

Apologies all round for posting that quiz. It was just too tempting not to do it, was it....?

Jeeez-O, my street cred is going steadily down the pan.
Apparently, I am 'Anne of Green Gables.'

'You're Anne of Green Gables!
by L.M. Montgomery
Bright, chipper, vivid, but with the emotional fortitude of cottage cheese, you make quite an impression on everyone you meet. You're impulsive, rash, honest, and probably don't have a great relationship with your parents. People hurt your feelings constantly, but your brazen honestly doesn't exactly treat others with kid gloves. Ultimately, though, you win the hearts and minds of everyone that matters. You spell your name with an E and you want everyone to know about it.'

No need to apologise ario - definitely one of the better quizzes (unless, like you say, you end up as The Hobbit).

Mekrin, my commiserations. I think. I'm not aware of "Anne of Green Gables" (and here I am trying to come across as cultured...)

Classic books a plenty up there.
.
'Miss Marilla Cuthbert and Mr. Matthew Cuthbert, middle-aged siblings who live together at Green Gables, a farm in Avonlea, on Prince Edward Island, decide to adopt an orphan boy from the asylum as a helper on their farm. Through a series of mishaps, what ends up under their roof is a precocious girl of eleven named Anne Shirley. Anne is bright and quick, eager to please but dissatisfied with her name, her pale countenance dotted with freckles, and with her long braids of red hair. Being a child of imagination, however, Anne takes much joy in life, and adapts quickly, thriving in the environment of Prince Edward Island.'
.
Well, trousers, if you really liked Little Women, you will love this.

Pet Lamb was bad enough, but a 'precocious girl of eleven..'

Perhaps Les Miserables isn't so bad after all, in light of that.

I was Pollyanna in a previous existence.

I demand a second marker. It asks me six random questions, only one of which was related to sex, and then brands me 'sex obsessed'. Lolita, I ask you. It is clearly offering a Freudian interpretation.

HaHaHAA !!
Oh,Ms Melancholy !
That as the Best I have heard in Ages .....oh, thank you !!!x

Please note : Your Zola has not responded.
Great post kegs.

anticant said...

Glad to see you're gestating. stop being sorry for yourself, and get on with it!

anticant said...

Very wise, Zola. You are probably the Devil's Dictionary.

I am cheating on this one, and contemplating a second go. It asks a series of "either/or" questions, to which the correct answer for me would be 'sometimes'. It told me I am "Master Harold...and the boys" [never heard of it] - for all the wrong reasons.

While rejecting the diagnosis, I am quite enthused by the notion of an obedient male harem, but fear it's too late now....

Anna MR said...

Hang on a minute, Anticant - "an obedient male harem"? And I didn't get that? There's no fairness.

Merkin - I was wondering how come you didn't come over and tell me what you were. Now I know. Sheer brilliance. I am more pleased than I care to describe.

Housut, honey - you need to read the book to understand the teeth reference. At least half-way, you know.

ario - miserable sod? Yep, that's me! Thanks (to Charlotte too) for drawing my attention to one of the more entertaining quizzes.

ms melancholy - perhaps the quiz takes into account how quickly you answered the sex question? Just a thought :)

lav - did you mention what book you were on one of the other threads? I'm trying to remember.

Hi zola - maybe its for the best that you didn't take part...anticant may be right about the Devil's Dictionary. Or his thesaurus at the very least.

Anticant - but I have a RIGHT to feel sorry for myself - I am Les Miserables (I'm pronouncing it as the English word as well rather than the more poetic French) after all.

Mind you I'm feeling vaguely normal (whatever that is) after my post-weekend exhaustion, so maybe things are looking up.

Anna mr, dear, maybe I'll have to put it on my list of books to read - especially now I've found out I'm its personification. I'm still honoured by my Finnish-language name by the way - don't think I'm getting all blase about it :)

Anonymous said...

Love in the Time of Cholera............being as 'ow you ask........................xx

Anonymous said...

You do realise, don't you, that Anticant is sometimes impishly referred to as 'Grumpy Aunt', so presumably you are his long-lost nephew?

trousers said...

That's impressive, lav - though I can't imagine what combination of answers would result in that. Then again, the same goes for all the results.

Ben, maybe so - or I'm just a grumpy old man way before my time....meanwhile I'm currently getting on with the business of putting answers to questions posed by the original Grumpy Aunt himself :)

My enquiries have revealed, dear all, that the questions we were being asked depended on our answers to previous questions. I have just been over at Kanikoski's (http://kanikoski.blogspot.com/) where young NMJ revealed she'd been asked whether she liked the British Isles. Now there were three others of us there who'd done the quiz, and no-one else had been asked that.

Hands up, who was asked this? And did anybody else get the one about whether you prefer rabbits or armadillos (I can see this is where it all went pear-shaped for me)?

(Housut, honey, I'm very pleased indeed to hear you care for your Finnish name. x )

trousers said...

Yes anna, I think I was asked whether I like the British Isles. Yesterday seems like a very long time ago now though...

trousers said...

Mind you I tried it today, and answered slightly differently because I'm in a better frame of mind....

"Today, Matthew, I'm Ulysses by James Joyce"

Anna MR said...

Nah, housut, sorry - I am telling you what I told the lovely NMJ - doing it twice is cheating.

Sorry - Les Mis you are. Incidentally, in the Finnish translation you are known as Kurjat. Hope it makes it a tad easier to bear.

trousers said...

Well I shall have to agree with you - Les Miserables, Kurjat, I am. I posted it, I must accept it.

I am also Lolita!
I think that I need therapy.
